Make time for yourself on vacation!Taking the lead in organizing the family schedule doesn’t seem to change for Mom while on vacation. We’re still the ‘leader of the pack’. Questions like what’s for breakfast, what kind of sandwiches are for lunch, what time are we headed to the beach and where are we going for dinner tonight still come our way. Oh…we are so needed! Most of us wouldn’t have it any other way, so we learn to enjoy it, try to make it more special than at home and create the memories they will remember forever. Continue to create those memories, but don’t forget to take some time for yourself. Everyone will survive if you take a couple of hours for a mani/pedi, to get a massage or even do a little shopping all by yourself. “Alone time” is healthy and you come back to your family feeling refreshed and recharged. Another idea is to make time for you and your husband to be alone. Don’t forget that it’s your vacation too! Since our kids are grown, we have a few days alone at the end of our time at the beach house. Terry and I usually spend the last night having a quiet dinner at one of our favorite restaurants at the beach. This year, we spent our last night having a wonderful dinner with our cousin Nancy and her husband, David. I really felt like Terry and I had a date that night that included conversation about things of interest to ‘couples’. It was a great evening and way to end our vaca. Speaking of our cousin Nancy…every time I see her, I remember why I love her and being around her so much. She is like a breath of fresh air and so very European. I feel like I need to be speaking French or something when I am with her. She will love this! Hope your summer ends up great! Enjoy these last few weeks. Happy Organizing! Mrs. O

Mrs. O Returns! We’re back from vaca and had a great time! I don’t think there are too many places quite as unique as Newport Beach, California. The area is amazing and still filled with those old fashion things you remember as a kid. Walking along the boardwalk, passing the ferris wheel and fun zone, taking the ferry from the Balboa Peninsula to the Island and salt water taffy from the corner candy store. I so enjoy the smell of the clean air, the sound of the ocean, watching the waves crash to the sand, riding bikes to breakfast, lazy afternoons reading and napping in the sun, barbecuing at home or enjoying the local restaurants of the area. I was happy to be there and sad to leave. I think reality set in as we enjoyed our last Balboa Bar the night before we left. Terry is a great travel partner and really has a way of bringing me to relax mode, and we did! So here I am, back to reality – but glad to be back in the office and with my Team. Newport always brings some kind of creative ideas and lots of inspiration to me. This year, it brought me more ideas for The Home Store (coming soon!) at Organize.com. I can’t wait to dig in and add the touches I think will make it a even more special. On the organizing side, I brought home a really great tip. While I am organized, I am still known to be an over packer. (It’s those shoes!). I am committed to making my beach packing lighter next year. As I packed to come home, I made a list of the things I really used and a couple of things that I wished I had brought. I included even the obvious things, like my bathing suits and added the number I could live with. When I finished and looked at the list, I probably cut back 50% and could certainly have lived without most of those items. I put the list in my beach folder when I returned home. It’s at my finger tips when I need it. Now, I’m on a mission for the next trip and going to put together a “Pack for the Beach List”. If you have ideas to add to the list, please send them my way! Happy Organizing! Mrs. O
